Aggregate washing involves more than adding water to a production line. The design needs to establish what should be removed, what quality the final product requires, and how the process water and separated fines will be managed.

Feed characteristics and washing objectives

Identify the material, particle size distribution and the presence of soil, clay or fines. Define the required product quality and target throughput. Reviewing a representative feed sample can help inform the process selection.

Water supply and circulation

Provide the available water quantity and quality, supply arrangement and installation space. Partial water recovery can be considered in the circuit design, but the achievable recovery depends on the feed and process. A fixed percentage should not be assumed without technical data.

Product dewatering and fines handling

Washed product may require a dewatering stage. The arrangement should also establish how separated fines, settling flows and sludge will be handled under the site’s conditions. These duties matter when reviewing the complete circuit.

Information for technical review

  • Material type, particle sizes and a representative feed sample
  • Target throughput and required product quality
  • Available water quantity and quality
  • Space constraints and material transfer routes
  • Existing fines and sludge handling arrangements, where applicable
